Stepping into the world of orthodontics is an exciting journey, and your first day with braces marks the beginning of this transformative adventure. At Imagine Orthodontic Studio, we ensure your experience is as smooth and comfortable as possible. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect on the first day of getting braces.

Warm Welcome & Preparation

When you arrive at our office, you’ll be greeted by our friendly team who will make you feel right at home. We understand that this is a significant day, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

The Placement Process

The process of placing braces is precise and carefully executed to ensure your comfort and the effectiveness of the treatment. Here’s how it typically unfolds:

  1. Cleaning and Preparation: First, we’ll clean and dry your teeth to create a perfect surface for the braces to adhere to. This step is crucial for ensuring that the braces are securely attached.
  2. Application of Adhesive: Next, a special adhesive will be applied to your teeth. This glue is safe and designed to hold the brackets in place until your treatment is complete.
  3. Placing the Brackets: The brackets, which are small metal or ceramic pieces, are then placed on each tooth. Our orthodontist will position them with great precision to ensure they’re in the optimal location for moving your teeth into alignment.
  4. Connecting the Archwire: Once all the brackets are in place, the archwire is threaded through them. This wire is what applies the gentle pressure needed to move your teeth over time.
  5. Securing the Wire: Finally, small elastic bands (or ligatures) are used to secure the wire to the brackets. These come in a variety of colors, so you can personalize your braces to match your style.

Initial Sensations & Adjustments

As the braces are applied, you might feel a bit of pressure, but it’s generally painless. Once everything is in place, you’ll begin to notice some new sensations. Your mouth will need some time to adjust to the braces, and it’s normal to experience the following:

  • Tightness and Pressure: It’s common to feel tightness in your teeth and gums. This is a sign that the braces are starting to work. Over-the-counter pain relief can help if needed. This is why at Imagine Orthodontic Studio we offer our patients the Imagine Synapse Dental Pain Eraser™. You can get instant relief from braces tightening thanks to Advanced Pulsewave Technology™.
  • Soreness: Your teeth and gums may be sore for a few days. Eating soft foods and rinsing with warm salt water can alleviate some of this discomfort.
  • Adapting to New Hardware: Your lips, cheeks, and tongue will need to get used to the brackets and wires. You might experience some minor irritation, but orthodontic wax can be applied to smooth out any rough spots.

Post-Placement Guidance

Before you leave, we’ll provide detailed instructions on how to care for your braces. This includes tips on brushing and flossing, foods to avoid, and how to handle any minor issues that might arise. We’re always available to answer your questions and provide support whenever you need it.
